About Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society
Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society is a registered charitable organization providing palliative and end of life care for patients suffering with life limiting diseases like Cancer. All our services are provided entirely free of cost as most of our patients are from the poorest section of the society. We are registered under section 12 A and 80 G of the IT Act and also under FCRA. We raise funds from individual donors, philanthropists and from companies as a part of their CSR activities.
Mission: To increase the availability and access to high quality palliative care and end of life care for people living with advanced illnesses like cancer and their families.
Vision: To help alleviate the physical, psycho-social and spiritual suffering associated with progressive incurable illness in our society.
Home care – “Life at Your Door Step”- Supporting Patients and Families at their home.
The “Life at Your Doorstep” program is designed to provide palliative care; pain and symptom management, emotional, spiritual and social support at homes and allowing patients the choice of receiving personalized care in their own home setting. Home care program provides a comprehensive home care, 24 hour / 7 days a week to patients and families suffering with advanced life limiting and terminal illnesses like Cancer, Kidney, Heart, Neurological and Liver diseases, Dementia, Muscular Dystrophy and Stroke in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. There are five vans operating in twin cities covering a radius of 35 kms. Each team comprises a trained palliative care doctor, skilled nurse, and trained counselor, who visit the homes and provide medical care, nursing care and counselling to patients and their families. This is done under the guidance of a specialized doctor in palliative medicine. The dedicated home care team not only attends to physical problems but also provides skilled psychosocial and spiritual support extending to bereavement support to caregivers in the event of death of the patient. Educating and preparing the family for expected changes at the end of life is another key role of the trained team. About 300 patients are enrolled and cared for under this program at any given point of time. The service is offered entirely free of cost.
A 21 bed in-patient facility named Kumudini Devi Hospice in Kukatpally
Kumudini Devi Hospice is a 21 bed facility for providing palliative care and end of life care to patients with advanced and terminal illnesses like end stage cancer etc. A team of well-trained staff consisting of doctors, nurses, counsellors and nursing aids provide good quality care and end of life care to these patients and ensure that they die comfortably, without pain and suffering and most importantly in dignity. The entire treatment including medical care, accommodation and food are given free of cost to all patients. The hospice provides an ambulance, which shuttles patients between the MNJ Cancer Hospital and the Hospice and also carries the dead bodies in the event of death to their respective homes, free of cost. Our services are given totally free of cost as most of our patients are from the poorer section of the populace.
Palliative Care for Children
Palliative Care for Children with Cancer
Pain Relief and Palliative Care Society in collaboration with MNJIO is one of the leaders in the country in providing unique pain relief and palliative care for the special needs of children with cancer. There is a dedicated team of a full time doctor(Paediatrician), nurse, a counsellor and a children palliative care assistant to take care of children who are admitted in the paediatric ward. We ensure a continuum of care, the same team goes to homes in the community and the hospice and offers 24 hours phone consultancy. We believe that no child should suffer in pain.
Neonatal Palliative Care Services
Neonatal Palliative Care is the care of babies born with life limiting conditions and their families. We offer this service to babies and their families being treated in department of neonatology, Nilofer Childrens Hospital, Hyderabad. Our team consisting of a paediatric palliative care physician, nurses, and counsellors offer medical nursing and psychosocial support to the such newborn babies and their families
Palliative Care Centre, Government General Hospital, Kurnool
Palliative care unit in Kurnool is 10 bed in-patient facility located inside the premises of Government General Hospital, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The services offered are in-patient facility, out-patient and home care service in Kurnool city. The entire service is offered free of cost.

Department of Pain and Palliative Medicine of MNJ Cancer hospital is one of the nodal centers in India for providing clinical services, research, training & education and advocacy in the field of Palliative Care. Pain Relief and Palliative Society actively supports all the above mentioned activities of the department. A team of doctors, nurses, social workers provide palliative care and make patient pain free and incorporate palliative care into the care of the patient right from the time of diagnosis.
